Born in 1958, Lumbini Kumari Iddawela is the youngest child of Wije Iddawela. She was brought up by Mudiyanse Iddawela and wife Leela of Kobeigane from her infancy. She did her schooling at Kurunegala convent and Nikaweratiya Central School. In 1980 Lumbini married her teacher Semasinghe Wanninayake Mudiyanselage Samarakoon of Girilla (near Nikaweratiya) and settled in Kobeigane. They have 3 children, daughters Samanthi (1981) and Shiwanthi (1985) followed by youngest son Gihan (1990). In 1994 she moved to Gallindawatta, Pilessa near Kurunegala. Samare and kids were transferred to top schools in Kurunegala. Samanthi graduated from teaching school in Polonnaruwa and became a primary school teacher. Shiwanthi graduated with honours from Rajarata University in Mihintale and joined government service. Gihan graduated from Moratuwa University to start career as an Electrical Engineer.
